Job Responsibilities
- Serve as a resource for project teams, responsible for applying engineering principles, technical knowledge, experience and research to a product development effort.
- Consider and champion a human centered design approach to product development efforts.
- Evaluate design and use risks and hazards, using methods such as FMEA to appropriately evaluate these risks.
- Support project teams and other Mechanical Engineering staff members in the creation and development of mechanical design solutions typically in the form of 3D CAD modeling.
- Provide system layout documentation / underlays to project teams that communicate and document constraints such as fixed component locations, packaging envelopes etc.
- Build proof-of-principle models and other early evaluation methods to test conceptual approaches.
Requirements
- Pursuing a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering
- Completion of 2+ years undergraduate course work at the start of the Co-Op
- Able to engage in a wide variety of engineering activities for a wide range of consumer product and medical devices
- Comfortable working in SolidWorks for 3D modeling
- Experience with prototype fabrication and assembly
- Knowledgeable about 3D printing and design for additive manufacturing
- Comfortable with engineering documentation and presenting deliverables to others
Preferred Experience
- Experience with 3D surfacing techniques
- Familiarity with injection-molded plastic design
- Comfortable working on multidisciplinary projects with other engineers, designers, or researchers
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment, such as consulting
