As a Senior Human Factors Engineer, you'll work in collaboration with our interaction designers, industrial designers, and engineering team to ensure that products are safe and easy to use by the end-user. You will guide your colleagues and our clients to be compliant with usability regulatory standards and guidance across the globe. You will be challenged to ensure the Human Factors viewpoint is represented throughout the design process, by working with research management to help define best practices and processes. As a senior member of the team, you will lead by example, take initiative in leading projects, and have a keen interest in mentoring junior members of the team. The research team at Delve works to provide insights to our design and engineering teams, as well as directly to our clients, to ensure that all research, design, and development efforts remain firmly grounded in user needs.

Responsibilities
- Provide technical oversight to cross-functional teams.
- Regularly communicate the human factors process and perspectives to internal and external stakeholders.
- Design, execute, and report on early-stage research (contextual inquiry) through user validation research (summative) on physical and/or digital products.
- Translate results of research into actionable design recommendations, and draft/contribute to human factors documents, such as task analyses, uFMEA, use specification, and HFU/UE reports.
- Ensure that FDA & global usability regulatory standards such as IEC 62366-1: 2015, ANSI/AAMI HE75, and EU MDR) are being met and that project teams are working within these standards and guidelines.
- Interact with a wide range of user groups (from patients to surgeons) in a variety of use environments.
- Assist the team in preparing Human Factors Engineering proposals and budgets.
Requirements
- Advanced degree in human factors, HCI, biomedical engineering, industrial engineering, cognitive psychology, or a related discipline.
- 5-7 years of hands-on, professional applied human factors engineering experience in product design
- Experience with FDA and IEC medical device development HF standards
- Ability to travel up to 30% either on your own or as part of a team and feel confident leading research teams wherever you're operating.
Preferred Experience
- You have worked in a consulting environment for at least one year and are familiar with how they operate.
- You have a true passion for human-centered product design, as evidenced by your education and career choices.
- You have a deep familiarity with product development from a Human Factors perspective and can confidently guide an internal and external team in the process, benefits, and deliverables thereof.
- You have extensive experience conducting all varieties of user studies.
- You demonstrate high standards of workmanship and attention to detail and can help improve departmental processes and best practices.
- You can develop, support, and defend design recommendations based on your experience with design research, ergonomics, and human factors principles
- You can successfully lead clients through problem definition and the innovation process during workshop sessions.
- You have a deep understanding of user research methodologies, concepting processes, approaches, and tools, and take the initiative to improve them.
- You have established yourself in thought-leadership within the Human Factors community.
- You are comfortable with ambiguity and complexity, because sometimes that leads to the most unique, unexpected design solutions.
- You act with an inclusive mindset and model these behaviors for the organization.
- You have a point of view of equity, inclusion, and diversity, and have an interest in striving for positive progress in this area.
